Artist Statement
I am an Italo-Scottish artist and image maker who fully exploits my broad range of artistic education and experience, which includes not only fashion design, theatre set design, painting, photography, video and sound but also cutting-edge technologies such as 3D printing and AI imaging.
Using this amalgam of dual cultures and varied techniques I create unique, rich, photo based, images. I consider my original images as starting points and not as finished works. Post-production techniques are essential to my vision. Although I use a wide range of state of the art, digital technology, I strive to achieve more of a handmade, dirty, aesthetic in my finished images. The raw emotions and feelings within a body of work are more important to me than “reality”.
My many points of reference, include early pioneers at the dawn of the photographic process such as Fox Talbot and Daguerre, through to modern day influences including many early 20th century Magnum photographers, Deborah Sheedy, Alexander McQueen, Artemisia Gentileschi and Roger Ballen to name but a few. My images strive for emotion no matter whether this is achieved through traditional analogue means or state of the art “deep nostalgia” or AI image generators.© Rosie Andrew
